Mandy - a budding Scientoligist??

Hosted by Photobucket.com
Here I am with an e-meter in front of me and those nifty tin cans in my hands right in the middle of a mall in Buffalo.  If I look stressed it must be that I am thinking about "school".

Buffalo

This weekend Robin and Mandy took a day trip to Buffalo, NY with our friends Chris and Laura. We spent some time in a huge mall where Mandy submitted herself to be evaluated with an e-meter by a Scientoligist. Suprise surprise, Mandy is stressed about school. The real surprise was that it was the only area of her life she is stressed about. (You should have seen that needle jump. So, all things considered, she can't complain. And I must confess, I lied to the SCientoligist and said I didn't know anything about Dianetics and Scientology. Good thing I wasn't holding the tin cans for the e-meter at that point! lol
On our way home we stopped in Niagara Falls for a walk. Had Volcanoes! at the Rainforest Cafe. Note to all who may go there and be tempted by this treat: one volcanoe will easily serve 4 people. We foolishly got two between four of us... We were smart too and only had dessert. I'm not paying $25 for a hamburger and fries! But it was a fun experience.
We also saw the falls in winter, which was lovely. Walked up Clifton Hill to work off the dessert. And then headed home.
See below for some fun photos.

Upon our return from Buffalo, Robin decided to weigh himself... the consensus is that he ate too many Buffalo wings!

Cars... more trouble than they're worth?

Oh joy of joys. What seemed only relatively troublesome - getting new insurance, new licenses, new registration - has turned out to be even MORE a pain in the arse!
Although they don't mention it on their (informative?) website, the ontario car registrars require the car to be saftied and have an emissions-test. More cost, more running around, more delays! Then we can license the car. Then we can go back to the insurance company and they can confirm the condition of the car etc.
Note to self - quit moving provinces!

(PS I wrote this entry because I think Robin would have been incoherent in his rage! lol. He hasn't quite come on board with this blog thing. Feel free to encourage him to contribute!)

Official Ontarians

I suppose we have to submit to being Ontarians now... at least for the next 4 years. We now have Ontario driver's licenses and will soon be registering our vehicle here. And then there's the fact that we live here...
But I will always be a Prairie Girl at heart, and we'll continue to call Manitoba home.

Not that living in Ontario is bad. It has its advantages, like -25 is the coldest we've been getting this winter. Manitoba can keep it's -40 weather thank you. And where we live the snow is cleared for us (I hear the plows now) except for right around the car. Apparently they don't dig everyone's car out of the snow for us :) No, instead they bury the vehicles with the snow they push around in the lot. Good thing we bought a shovel last night - it's snowing.
And I am pleased that I no longer have to climb a mountain (of snow) to get out of my home, as I did in Newfoundland. They didn't clear any sidewalks there.

So winter has it's benefits here. We'll see what Spring holds...

Time to curl back up with a text book. Here's hoping this post works (I already wrote it once and lost it from some error).

Gryphon and Jenny cuddling together. How sweet. Posted by Hello

Post-Holiday Update

Having just tested with my first post a minute ago, I am satisfied with how the blog looks. And so I will write something more.

The last item we sent out was our belated holiday cards and much-belated thank you photos (from the wedding) and a mini newsletter covering from July to December. So here's what has happened since...
not much.

Robin's still working, taking calls for a cell phone battery recall. He's often online with xbox live playing halo 2 - so catch him there if you're a gamer. Or you may see him signed in with MSN messenger. When he's not doing that he's reading Anne Rice the Vampire Chronicles or strumming guitar. Or making dinner (Yum, there's a chicken in the oven right now).

As for me, I'm back at school with two courses and one teaching assistant job. I'll even be teaching one of the lectures in March. School is going well, but it's a lot of work and a LOT of reading. I just got a new pair of reading glasses, which I hope will help relieve some of the strain. When I'm not at school and not reading for school I'm meeting with friends. I'm a member of two local Pagan groups: a general group and a new reclaiming collective. It turns out one of my neighbours is also a member, so we get together for tea and a chat often. She's from Brazil and a great conversationalist.

Jenny and Gryphon, the cats, tolerate each other. Sometimes they even sleep side by side (but shh, don't tell them that). I'll try to post my first photo as evidence. We also have a bin of worms for vermicomposting (www.geocities.com/mandy__moon/worms.html). I just remade their bin and moved them because my first attempt went moldy on top. Having just dug through it I will now forget about that gross experience!

And now I will send e-mails to everyone informing them of this new blog. Enjoy.

Welcome

This is my first attempt at a blog. I hope it is useful. I'll post something more significant soon.
